Parent Companion (“Parent Companion,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a mobile and web application (the “App”) that helps parents and caregivers log and track information about babies and young children (the “Service”).
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the Service. It is intended to meet common expectations for users in the United States, including California, and in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, and Switzerland, consistent with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws.
Important: Parent Companion is intended for adults (parents and caregivers). It is not directed at children. You must not create an account on behalf of a child as the account holder.
The data controller for personal data processed through the Service is the operator of Parent Companion. For privacy requests, contact us using the email or contact method shown in the App Store or Google Play listing for Parent Companion, or as provided in the App.
We collect information in the following categories, depending on how you use the Service.
When you use the App, you may enter information such as:
This information may relate to a child; it is provided by you as the account holder or an invited caregiver.
If you submit feedback (including optional screenshots), we process:
Feedback may be synced to our issue tracking tools when configured.
If you use our marketing website or web App, standard web technologies apply (e.g., cookies or local storage used by Firebase and the browser for session and security).
We use the information above to:
We do not sell your personal information for money. We do not use your data to send third-party marketing unrelated to Parent Companion unless we ask for separate consent where required.
We share information only as needed to run the Service:
| Recipient | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Google LLC (Firebase, Google Sign-In, Analytics, cloud infrastructure) | Hosting, authentication, database, storage, analytics, security, and related processing under Google’s terms and privacy policies. |
| Email delivery | Sending transactional messages (invitations, feedback confirmations) through our configured mail transport (e.g., SMTP). |
| Linear (optional) | If enabled, feedback content may create issues in Linear for product tracking. |
| Professional advisers | Lawyers or accountants where required, under confidentiality obligations. |
| Legal and safety | If required to comply with law, court orders, or to protect rights, safety, and security. |
We may also share information in connection with a business transfer (e.g., merger or acquisition), subject to appropriate safeguards.
We use Google Firebase, which may process and store data in the United States and other countries where Google operates. If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, Google relies on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and supplementary measures as described in Google’s documentation. See Google’s privacy documentation for details.
We retain information as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. We may retain certain data after you delete your account where required for legal, tax, security, or legitimate business purposes (for example, limited backups or logs), then delete or anonymize it in line with our practices.
You may request deletion of your account or personal data as described below. Some information may remain in analytics or backups for a period before being overwritten.
We implement technical and organizational measures appropriate to the risk, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), access controls in our database and storage rules, authentication, and Firebase security features. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
If the GDPR or similar law applies, you may have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, object to processing, and data portability (where applicable); withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, contact us using the contact information in the App or store listing. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling requests.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): You have rights to know what personal information we collect, to delete personal information (subject to exceptions), to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of certain processing. We do not “sell” or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are commonly defined in California law. You may designate an authorized agent where permitted by law.
Other U.S. states: If applicable state privacy laws grant you rights, you may contact us to exercise them.
On iOS and Android, you can limit ad-related tracking and analytics where the platform provides controls (for example, App Tracking Transparency on iOS or advertising ID settings on Android). Firebase Analytics may still collect product analytics as configured in the App.
The Service is not directed at children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) as the account holder. Accounts must be created and managed by adults. If you believe we have collected personal information from a child inappropriately, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
The App may reference third-party websites or resources (for example, educational links). We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Google’s privacy policy applies to Google Sign-In and Firebase services.
We do not use your personal data for solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version at the same URL and revise the “Last updated” date. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice as required by law (for example, in-app notice or email).
For privacy questions or requests, contact us using the support or privacy contact shown on our App Store / Play listing or inside the App.
This policy describes the Service as implemented in the Parent Companion codebase (Firebase backend, Firebase Analytics, optional Linear integration for feedback, transactional email for invitations and feedback). It is provided for transparency and does not constitute legal advice; consider independent review for your jurisdiction.
